About
Dr Zakareia graduated from Alexandria medical school in 2001. He subsequently obtained qualifications in general adult psychiatry in 3 countries: Egypt 2006, Qatar 2007 and Australia 2015. Dr Zakareia’s experience spans across different cultures and languages. His multicultural and travelled life shaped his humanistic approach and led him towards a deep appreciation of the human condition.
Dr Zakareia completed advanced training in child and adolescent psychiatry in NSW, Australia in 2017. He is completing the RANZCP Advanced Certificate in Psychotherapy which he started in NSW in 2015. Dr Zakareia is also a candidate trainee with QPPA (Queensland Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Association). He started his psychoanalytic psychotherapy training in QLD Australia in 2015. He is experienced in various modalities of psychotherapy including CBT, DBT, MBT, ACT and Family Therapy.
Dr Zakareia held several leadership and consultancy roles in public health in Northern NSW and in Perth Metropolitan from 2016 to date. His latest experience being head of service of a community Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service in Perth. Most recently Dr Zakareia took on the role of a clinical lead for Youths Intensive Outpatient Eating Disorder Service.
Dr Zakareia’s vocational experience across the lifespan, from children through adolescence and youths to adulthood equips him with a developmental perspective and the role of the environment in influencing human behaviour. He complements this approach with a specialized training in autism spectrum disorder assessment in Victoria. Dr Zakareia is trained to administer standardized ASD diagnostic instruments, namely ADOS and 3di.
Dr Zakareia has an interest in pharmacogenomic and nutritional psychiatry. He started consulting part time in private in 2019, with a view to transition into full time private practice in Perth in the year 2023.
Dr Zakareia’s collaborative, non-judgemental and empathic stance is the bedrock of his evidence-based practice of psychiatry.
