Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD) is often linked with unvalidated and unexplored potential of a person who usually strives yet fails to achieve at the self-expected level. This affects self-esteem and confidence, the ability to manage the complex environment of study or work and the ability to carry on effectively with various roles we have in our modern society.
Emotional early life experience as well as events occurring later on in life, contribute to the burden of symptoms linked to poor concentration and reduced ability to manage complex tasks and study/work under pressure. Eating Disorders and disordered eating (including restricted eating, overeating, binge-eating, and weight-compensatory behaviours e.g purging) and other adverse eating behaviours can be overwhelming, building up a sense of guilt and inadequacy, self-isolation and despair.
Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) in adulthood, often referred to as “neurodiversity conditions”, are often associated with an intact, yet effortful and strained functioning, both socially and cognitively. Whilst having no specific treatment medication-wise, this group of disorders benefits from well-tailored psychological support addressing weak neuropsychological domains (often overlapping with those in ADHD), and validation of one’s core personal strengths and potentials.
All above, if unattended in a timely manner, can often lead to secondary depression, anxiety disorders and self-destructive behaviours.
